Melbourne Motor Show 2008
Nearly 230,000 people visited the auto extravaganza, and they were not disappointed with more than $30 million of new and exotic machinery on display. Sales of vehicles stunned many exhibitors, with at least one selling well over three million dollars' worth of cars. Rolls-Royce sold four cars with another six leads, while Bentley took its first of five orders - for an Azure - within 15 minutes of opening the show, and Maybach is now talking with six customers for its new 57S model. In the rarefied $1.3 million territory of the Pagani Zonda, the Show and its national publicity brought enquiries from coast to coast, with Australia's first Zonda sale expected very soon.
At the more affordable end of the market, Honda had huge interest in its new Civic, and Ssangyong had achieved 27 sales in total, including five Chairman limousines. The most expensive car on show was the $3 million futuristic Rinspeed Senso concept. The show had everything from luxury limos, dream Italian sports cars, interesting concepts and everything in between. It also saw the official return of the Dodge and Fiat brands to Australia.
