MINI release new 'Highgate' convertible
Taking its name from the exclusive - and expensive - area of North London that comprises the boroughs of Camden, Haringey and Islington, the Highgate joins the 'Baker Street' and 'Bayswater' models as the latest in a series of London-themed limited-edition MINI models to be released throughout 2012.
Finish on the MINI Highgate is a distinctive new shade called 'Iced Chocolate' metallic that's supposed to have a blue tinge in certain kinds of light. The co-ordinated brown fabric softop has a similar metallic sheen. The bonnet has brown & black stripes with blue edging, with special Highgate badging on the indicator surrounds. The wheels are exclusive 'Double Cross' 17 inch alloys with an eight spoke design supposedly inspired by the Union Jack.
Inside, the MINI Highgate features 'Dark Truffle' leather seats with lighter contrasting stitching and blue piping. The same distinctive dark brown shade is also used for the gear lever and handbrake surround. The interior also features stainless steel pedals, brushed alloy trim, Highgate badging on the sills, Highgate tabs on the seats, and floor mats with Dark Truffle edging.
Mated to its sophisticated style, the MINI Highgate convertible will be made available with a choice of performance engines: standard Cooper; Cooper S; Cooper D; or Cooper SD engines, ranging in power from 82kW to 135kW. Six speed manual transmissions will be fitted as standard, with a six speed auto available as an option.
Unlike the Baker Street and Bayswater MINIs, no Australian release date has been announced for the Highgate convertible.
