Motors & Masterpieces’ callout for Art and Photography competition
Motors & Masterpieces, the all-new Australian motoring festival celebrating the best machinery in automotive history, will also celebrate the best in the creative community. The event’s ‘Art and Photography Competition’ will see selected entries showcased alongside hundreds of concours cars and motorcycles at the Melbourne Showgrounds on 22-24 November.
While the subject matter for interested artists and photographers is simply ‘The Classic Motoring Movement,’ it is recommended that entries fit into one of the ten themes in the concours. Those themes are La Dolce Vita (post-WWII Italian vehicles), California Dreaming (American cars of the 1950s to ’70s), Tokyo Lights (Japanese vehicles and JDM car culture), Swinging London (British cars and bikes of the 1960s), Great Southern Land (Australian-made cars), Golden Age (Pre-1930 automotive pioneers), High Society (vehicles from the 1930s and ’40s), Continental Classics (non-Italian post-WWII cars), Monaco Glitz (modern supercars) and Chequered Flag (racing cars and motorcycles).
Just as the cars and bikes in each class will be diverse, the concours themes offer a broad canvas for artistic and photographic expression, too.
Entries for the Art and Photography Competition opened in July and can be submitted at: motorsandmasterpieces.com/art-photography-competition.
Pieces selected for display will be witnessed by thousands of enthusiasts at Motors & Masterpieces this November, with prizes for the winner and runner-up in each category. A panel of prominent individuals from the Australian art and cultural scene will judge the entries, with first prize of $4,000 in each category and $1,000 for runners-up.
On the Motors & Masterpieces concours, organisers report that car and motorcycle entries have been pouring in, with hundreds of highly desirable pre-1993 vehicles submitted, all vying for class honours and general awards that include People’s Choice, Spirit of Motors & Masterpieces, Young Achiever and the coveted Best of Show. As previously reported, Monaco Glitz is the only class open to post-1993 vehicles, but entries in this class will be ineligible for Best of Show.
Those interested in entering the concours should go to: motorsandmasterprieces.com for information on vehicle criteria and costs. Motors & Masterpieces will also host a general car and motorcycle display that’s free to enter.
