Nissan to unveil 'BladeGlider' at Tokyo Show
Called the 'BladeGlider', this compact machine features the 'deltawing' styling seen on the ZEOD-RC, but reworks the interior to provide room for a centrally-placed driver and two rear seat passengers.
Nissan says the BladeGlider concept is a "hyper-agile and highly efficient EV", but more interestingly, add that the concpet will serve as a prototype for an upcoming production vehicle that demonstrates the innovation and excitement of the Nissan brand and Nissan's leadership in Zero Emissions mobility. Whether the production vehicle's layout and styling will be as radical as the concept remains to be seen.
The ZEOD RC, the BladeGlider features an aerodynamically-developed form, with a deliberately narrow front track. Combined with a wide and stable rear track, this reduces drag and increase downforce for road-hugging performance, with high G cornering and acceleration.
The roofless concept features driver controls more akin to an aircraft joystick than a steering wheel, with wing-like paddle controls and central information screen. This fits with Nissan's description of the concept as offering "glider-like" driving pleasure.
Power comes from in-wheel motors, providing rear-wheel propulsion with independent motor management.
Other, more conventional, offerings Nissan will debut on their stand at Tokyo include a Nismo-spec GT-R, 'DAYZ ROOX' mini people mover, JDM-only 'Teana' sedan (like the Altima that's due to appear here), and an 'Aero-Style' version of the LEAF EV, along with new 'Autonomous Drive' technology and other future developments.
