Paul Morris sets unofficial Lakeside lap record
As part of the celebrations for the circuit's 50th birthday, Morris declared he would attempt to break Glenn Seton's long-standing touring car lap record of 51.44 seconds, set back in 1997.
With the biggest crowd present since the 1998 V8 Supercars round watching on (including Seton and his father Barry), Morris set some quick times on Saturday, before nailing it on Sunday with a blistering 51.16 second lap! Due to it being set in a demonstration run rather than an actual race, this is an unofficial record, but for the thousands of fans who turned out for the weekend-long event, it was a joy to watch nonetheless.
The Lakeside Festival of Touring Cars, the fourth and last event held to celebrate the circuit's 50th birthday this year, featured a plethora of cars, racing and action from Group A, Group C and Group N, as well as the HQ Holdens, Trans-Am championship and Queensland's favourite - the Holden Geminis.
