Rare classics added to Motorclassica 2012 Auction
At time of writing, 30 cars and 6 motorcycles had been consigned for the auction, comprising a diverse range of collectable machines, from veterans to late model muscle, classic racers to iconic sports cars.
Highlights of the auction include the already publicised ex-Twiggy 1969 Lamborghini Miura S, which has been joined by a 1963 Aston Martin DB5, 1958 Jaguar XK150 roadster, 1937 Bugatti Type 57 and a recreation of the striking Maserati Tipo 61 'birdcage' sports car.
Other consignments sure to attract attention include a 1933 MG J3 Midget that has competition history in the UK, and a 1908 Mercedes 35hp, billed as the oldest surviving example of a shaft drive Mercedes in the world.
Australian-made cars are represented by a 1987 HDT VL Director, one of only 12 built, and a 1967 Elfin 300 sports racer with an impressive competition record.
The auction will be one of the highlights of the closing day of the 2012 RACV Motorclassica. The event runs from Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 28, with the consigned cars on display throughout the event, ahead of the auction on Sunday, October 28 at 2:00PM.
On the new partnership with Manheim, RACV Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers said: "We believe this partnership will be the start of a beautiful friendship. With over 50 years of experience, Manheim is the Australian market leader in the provision of automotive auction services."
Now in its third year, RACV Motorclassica expects to attract over 20,000 visitors to see an unprecedented collection of classic, vintage and veteran vehicles, including a number from overseas, who have travelled to Australia to compete for the event's now coveted 'Best in Show' award.
