Scammell May Auction
The first auction offered a staggering 725 lots of rare spares, bonnet mascots, oil bottles, collectables and cars. Doors opened at 9am and by 10am the auction house was full to the brim with over 250 registered bidders. Auctioning well into the afternoon, over 75% of lots offered were sold, a result which not only surprised the team at Scammells, but further fuelled their desire to make this a regular part of the auction calendar. An equally auspicious auction was held last October and the crowded room of bidders watched another collection of car, parts and collectables, including a rare Shell "Stickman" Enamel sign which was offered and sold for $2,886.
In addition to rare parts and collectables, Scammells also offered a collection of historic SA licence plates, with an early three digit selling for $2,420, a mid range three digit selling for $3,885 and a rare five digit plate selling for $3,774. Cars from all eras were offered, including a 1915 Model T Ford, 1963 Dodge Phoenix, HSV VL Commodore and a very rare 1948 Mark IV Drophead Jaguar. "Whilst sales of this type will never be our main business, holding these auctions every May and October offers a well needed distraction from our 1000 lot weekly auctions, " says Jason Harris, Managing Director of Scammell Auctions.
Scammells are now taking entries for the next auction, which will be held on Saturday 15th May. Entries need to be finalised by end of April.
