Scott McLaughlin reunited with Peter Brock Trophy
The most coveted prize in Australian motorsport, the ‘Peter Brock Trophy’ that’s awarded to winners of the Bathurst 1000, was recently in the USA, where Scott McLaughlin was reunited with the trophy he won in 2019.
With this year marking the 60th Anniversary of the annual touring car enduro’s first running at Mount Panorama (following three years at Phillip Island), the trophy’s visit to Detroit follows its presentation in Launceston during the NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint at Symmons Plains.
After a flying visit to the USA, the Peter Brock Trophy next went to Darwin for the Betr Darwin Triple Crown in mid-June and will visit more Supercars rounds, along with venues up and down the Australian east coast ahead of the 2023 Repco Bathurst 1000 on 5-8 October.
In 2019, McLaughlin won the Bathurst 1000 in a Team Penske (nee Dick Johnson Racing) Ford Mustang co-driven by Alexandre Premat. The first Bathurst victory for McLaughlin, Premat and team boss Roger Penske, the 2019 victory also broke a Bathurst drought for Dick Johnson that went back to 1994.
McLaughlin, who switched to IndyCar with Team Penske after winning his third Supercars championship in 2020, posted photos of himself holding the famous trophy ahead of the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix, where he finished seventh in the street race.
The Peter Brock Trophy is on loan from Triple Eight’s workshop in Banyo, where it has been on display since Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander won the 2022 Repco Bathurst 1000 - the final ever win at Mount Panorama for a Holden Commodore.
