Auction Car Highlights
Lot 42 – 1975 Holden HJ Sandman
Genuine XX7 Sandman, 235 and 4spd manual, Statesman front end, new paint, custom interior
Originally finished in Jamaica Lime with Gazelle trim, and powered by a 253 V8 and four-speed manual, this genuine (XX7 plated, Brisbane built) Sandman panel van was purchased by the current owner in 2018.
A restoration by the owner has retained the essential Sandman character, but alterations and modernisations have been made in several areas, starting with the paint, which is now a metallic green. The Statesman front clip and tinted side windows reflect modifications that Sandmans like this received in period, while a less obvious alteration is wider GTS rear wheels.
Inside, the trim has been redone in black with green contrast stitching, there’s power steering and a GTS dash and steering wheel. A subtle rear fitout in the rear consists of a mattress and side curtains.
Drivetrain remains 253 and four-speed, but the V8 has gained a mild cam, Holley carby and MSD ignition, while the trans has received a new selector and clutch actuator.
Suspension and brakes have been fully refurbished, with the sale including a Holden Historical Services report confirming it’s a genuine Sandman.

Lot 32 – 1941 Willys street rod coupe
Full custom build, fibreglass body, custom interior, 351 with 6/71 blower, C4 auto, leather interior

Modifications include a one-piece tilt front end, suicide doors with shaved handles, a decked bootlid and 1950 Pontiac tail lights. The body sits on a custom chassis, with transverse monoleaf front suspension and a Jaguar IRS.
Brakes are mix of Falcon (front) and Jaguar (rear) discs, while the wheels are ET Gassers on the front and wide (20x10) Centerline Convo Pros on the rear.
The key to this build is its engine, which is a built 351 Windsor V8, with a GM 6/71 blower and dual Holley carbs added. Other engine work includes MSD coils and distributor, an upgraded cooling system, aftermarket headers and custom side-exit exhaust. The C4 auto was rebuilt and drives the rears through a Jaguar S-Type diff.

Lot 60 – 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS lowrider
Full custom build, interior/exterior engraving, hydraulic suspension, 327 V8, T400, Cruzin’ feature car
In terms of individuality, nothing in the SEVEN82MOTORS July auction beats this Chevy Impala in full lowrider spec.
While a quintessentially American car, much of the work was done here in Australia, including the paint, but the extensive engraving was done by hand in the US using genuine parts and panels instead of reproduction items. Once complete, the engraved interior and exterior pieces were chromed before being sent to Australia.
The muti-adjustable hydraulic suspension uses three pumps and eight batteries, while the 13-inch, 100-spoke wire wheels keep the lowrider look going.
Under the bonnet is the factory 327 V8, which has been rebuilt with a mild cam and electronic ignition, while the T400 auto runs to a braced Chevy diff.
Inside, the seats, doorcards and carpets have been replaced, a Dakota Digital instrument cluster has been fitted and there’s an Alpine sound system.
Previously featured in Cruzin’ magazine the level of detail on this car is mind blowing and really needs to be seen to be appreciated.

Lot 21 – 1975 AMC Pacer X - NO RESERVE
Very rare in Australia, special ‘X’ package, many factory options,4.0lt six, 3spd auto
Promoted as America’s “first wide small car” when it was released for the 1975 model year, the Pacer was as wide as most full-sized cars of the period, but significantly shorter. It also had great vision, with 37 percent of the Pacer’s body surface being glass.
Fitted with the standard 4.0-litre (242ci) inline six and three-speed manual transmission, this particular car was well optioned from the factory, with power sterign, ait conditioning and an 8-track player fitted. The X package on this car was available from 1975 to 1977 and included a front sway bar, extra chrome trim outside, sports wheels and Pacer X decals.
Inside, the X package came with vinyl bucket seats, custom trim, a floor shifter and sports steering wheel as standard.
Displaying only 18,993 miles on the odometer (believed genuine), this Pacer is certainly a rarity here and could possibly be the only one with the X package in the country. It’s described as being well looked after by collectors since arriving in Australia.
