Sh...tbox Rally plans for 2019
The largest independent fundraiser for the Cancer Council, the Sh*tbox Rally was created by James Freeman in 2009 after he lost both his parents to cancer within 12 months of each other. Since the first rally as held in 2010, participants have raised $14.78 million for the Cancer Council, including $1.97 million on this year’s event; the highest single-year total ever. The fundraising goal for next year’s rally is $2 million.
"When I launched the Rally back in 2009, I hoped that within five years we would hit $1 million raised each rally, but I never envisaged raising $2 million on the 10th Anniversary rally,” Freeman said. “It is going to take a lot of commitment and hard work, but I am confident we will do it.”
The 2019 Sh...tbox Rally will be the first to be held over ten days, starting in Perth on 8 May and passing Uluru and central Australia on the way to the finish in Sydney on 17 May.
“The 10-year anniversary rally had to be something remarkable, and what could be more remarkable than a cross-continent trip,” Freeman added. “It will also be great to finish in the city where it all started ten years earlier.” Freeman added that the 2019 west-to-east route will include significant variations in terrain, along with a number of surprises for the teams in what he describes as a truly epic journey.
With registrations now open, around 250 teams in sub-$1,000 cars are expected to take part in the 2019 Sh*tbox Rally. To register and to get more information, go to: shitboxrally.com.au
