Share the Chevy love at MotorFest
His stunning Roman Red 1959 Corvette Roadster, which will be on display at RACQ MotorFest, is one; the other is wife of 47 years, Robyn. Just who or which comes first, Owen isn't saying. Sometimes my wife gets a little jealous about the Corvette," he chuckles. "But at least it doesn't answer back."
Owen's love affair with the Corvette began about a decade ago when he bought the car. It had already been restored, but I needed to make a few adjustments to it," he said.
"It's been a labour of love ever since. A lot of blood, sweat and tears have one into the Corvette, as they have with all my cars."
The avid car collector from Samford, a suburb of Brisbane, has an impressive collection of four American sports cars including a 1971 XY GT Ford Falcon, a 1965 GT 350 Shelby Cobra and a 1966 Corvette Coupe.
And he loves every one of them.
"I can't imagine my life without them. They are like a part of the family." Just like Owen's wife, his cars are sticking around for a while to come.
"I don't think the novelty will wear off anytime soon." Owen's Chevrolet Corvette will be a feature of RACQ MotorFest 2011, which will take place on July 17, between 10am and 3pm.
Brisbane's premier motoring event will pay tribute to the Chevy brand, which
celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2011, as well the 50th birthday of the EType
Jaguar.
More than 750 other collector, unique and vintage vehicles will be on display
on the day.
It's not only a car buff's heaven, but an inexpensive family day out complete with amusement rides, coffee and food stalls, as well as markets and more.
The entry fee is a gold coin per person, with all proceeds going direct to RACQ's Helicopter Rescue Network. Children under three are free.
Registrations are still open for RACQ MotorFest.
If you have a special car you'd like to display, register your interest online at racq.com.au/motorfest or call 3872 8696.
