Subaru previews BRZ ‘S’ 10th Anniversary Edition
Ahead of the release later this year of an all-new version of their BRZ, Subaru Australia has confirmed a special anniversary version of the sports coupe that’s shared with Toyota will also be released to acknowledge the model’s ten years in the local market.
“Bursting on the scene in 2012, Subaru BRZ offered, and continues to offer, an attainable rear-wheel drive pure sports car that delivers truly engaging handling and a fun drive,” said Subaru Australia Managing Director, Blair Read.
“Due to these renowned credentials, it has created a loyal following amongst owners and enthusiasts, so we are thrilled to confirm the 10th Anniversary Special Edition ‘S’ BRZ is bound for Australia to celebrate this iconic car.”
To be offered in very limited numbers, the BRZ S 10th Anniversary Special Edition will feature unique exterior and interior styling elements. Inside, blue accents on the standard black leather and suede trim includes a stripe and contrast stitching on the seats, with blue contrast stitching also on the shifter and handbrake boots. Additionally, ‘10th Anniversary’ identification is embroidered onto the upper doorcards.
Exterior identification is limited to a subtle decal on the rear windscreen, with all units to be finished in Subaru’s signature WR Blue. While the full specs hadn’t been revealed at time of writing, other features are likely to include matte black 18-inch wheels, black mirror caps and black exterior accents.
Similar details and one-choice paint applies to the companion Toyota GR86 10th Anniversary, which is being limited to just 86 units only for Australia, suggesting the Subaru will be equally exclusive, if not moreso.
There are no mechanical changes over the standard BRZ, but being based on the second-generation version, the 10th Anniversary edition will gain the larger 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine that increases maximum outputs to 174kW and 250Nm – 22kW and 38Nm up on what the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre boxer engine delivered.
A choice of six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions will be available, with other changes over the original BRZ from 2012 including a more refined chassis, more safety tech, optimised handling characteristics and a driver-focussed cockpit.
Pricing for the BRZ S 10th Anniversary Special Edition will be announced closer to local release, but is expected to add a premium over the upcoming MY23 BRZ S’s list pricing of for $41,590 with the manual and $45,390 with the automatic (NOTE: The BRZ S carries a $1,300 premium over the standard BRZ).
The BRZ S 10th Anniversary Special Edition is due to arrive in Australia before the end of 2022.
