Subaru upgrades BRZ, adds tS
Subaru has released a new, range-topping version of their BRZ sports coupe, which arrives at the same time as an infotainment upgrade to the rest of the BRZ range.
Sitting above the standard BRZ and BRZ Premium, the BRZ ‘tS’ is defined by suspension upgrades, parts from the STI catalogue and cosmetic changes.
Suspension modifications start with Sachs shock absorbers, tuned by STI and matched to STI-tuned coil springs, that deliver what Subaru says is more linear steering response.
Also from STI is a flexible strut tower bar. This v-shaped brace improves handling, reduces front end vibrations, as well as yaw rate and response time to lateral G forces when cornering.
An STI flexible draw stiffener, attached to the front suspension crossmembers and subframe, sharpens chassis response after steering input, while also improving handling on poor roads, during acceleration and under braking.
Also from the STI catalogue are 18-inch forged aluminium wheels, fitted with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres (215/40R18) to best exploit the suspension and body upgrades.
Externally, the tS gets a bespoke front bumper, black rear spoiler, STI side trim, red Brembo brake calipers (4-piston front, 2-piston rear) shark-fin antenna and tS badging.
Inside, the Alcantara-trimmed seats receive red highlights and tS logos, while door cards and dash get Grand Luxe trim.
Red seat belts, STI logos on the instrument cluster, a push-button starter with STI logo and exclusive black-with-red-trim steering wheel complete the tS interior features.
Priced at $39,894 for the six-speed manual and $41,894 for the six-speed auto (list prices, excluding ORCs), the BRZ tS is available now. Additionally, a new Cool Grey paint option will be exclusive to the BRZ tS for a limited time.
Other BRZ variants add a Gen 3 infotainment system for 2018 that features a 7-inch touchscreen, six speakers, sat nav and smart phone compatibility.
