This years event organised by the Triumph Car Club of the ACT, is now in its third year in the Queanbeyan NSW (the gateway to Canberra), the park is a great setting for the car and bike display, the Mayor Tim Overall and his wife Nicolle, the deputy Mayor Trudy Taylor were on hand to select vehicles that they would like to take home, the other guest, Anne Pratt OAM manager of “Home in Queanbeyan” was delighted to be there, some of her team did the bucket coin collection for the “HIQ” the local charity helping the local homeless and people with mental health issues .
The club shield was this year won the ACT Mini club, they were supported by the ACT Mini dealer celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Mini, one of their vehicles won the Ladies choice award the colourful mini with moke in tow.
Anne Pratt, found a super MG TF in metallic olive green, which she said no matter how bad her day was, it would be cured by driving this beauty home.
The Mayor Tim Overall selected a very nice example of the Sunbeam Rapier, owned by Ian Pagett, Tim said he always wanted one when they came on the market in the 60s but the price was just out of his range.
Nicolle Overall the Mayoress, had a great time finding something special and chose Howard Taylors 1931 red Austin 7, a c very original car. Somehow we didn’t get the photos of these two selections, but they were both little beauties.
The riders choice of motorcycles was tough call with so many classics on display, but the original 1952 Douglas Vespa got the nod over the series 1 LandRover with the Ariel in the trailer.
As usual there were many outstanding examples of the best of British on display, the Jags won the day with numbers and a fine range of examples of the Marque, other marques displaying some of their finest, were Jensen, Aston Martin, MG, Morris Minor, Armstrong Siddley, Rover, Morgan, Rolls Royce, Bently, Riley, Vauxhall, Lanchester, Lotus, Ford Lotus Cortina , Zephyr & Zodiac, Humber, Wolsley, Bristol, Austin and the host clubs Triumph. The usual show stoppers were there, the GT40 (originally from Lola in Britain) had a crowd around it all day, the current movie Ford v Ferrari helped some of the discussion.
The Terribly British Day, is one of the oldest motoring shows in the Canberra region, considering the crazy weather cycles the region has had this year we were blessed this years event was held in cool but fine weather or as some said a typical English summers day.
We look forward to next year, when the Triumph Car Club ACT will again organise this classic day out for the best of British.
