Toyota cuts GR Supra from Australian market
Toyota Australia has axed the GR Supra from their local range. Final orders were taken in August, ahead of the end of production for the famous sports car’s fifth-generation, which is expected by mid-2026. A sixth generation Supra is expected, but not confirmed, for release in 2027.
Toyota’s announcement came less than two months after it was revealed a high-spec Track Edition would be added to the existing GR Supra GT and GTS variants for the Australian market.

“The GR Supra already had a sterling legacy when the current generation launched in 2019, and we’re pleased to say it has exceeded the expectations set by its predecessors,” said Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley.
“Its pulse-raising performance, sleek coupe design and thrilling dynamics helped raise the profile of our GR portfolio, helping to pave the way for other exciting models like the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.”

On a platform shared with the BMW Z4, the GR Supra featured a turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, sending 285kW and 500Nm to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. Conceived as a driver’s car from the outset, the GR Supra featured an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and driver-focussed dynamics that were enhanced on the Track Edition.
While the GR Supra will disappear from Toyota showrooms next year, it’ll have a presence on local racetracks, with the Supercars program headed by Walkinshaw Andretti United and including Brad Jones Racing to go ahead unchanged.

In its six years on the Australian market, the GR Supra achieved 1,400 sales in total (as of June, 2025), which averages out to 233 sales annually. In the ‘Sports Cars $80,000 to $200,000’ bracket that it occupied, the GR Supra was regularly outsold by rivals, like the BMW 4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Last year, BMW’s 2 Series coupe was the top seller in this category with 1,565 sales. That total also made it Australia’s top-selling sports car overall, bettering the cheaper Ford Mustang, Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86 and Mazda MX-5.
