World Time Attack Tickets go on sale Monday 30th April
Following Australia's first real taste of Time Attack last year, a fleet of modified cars from all over the world will descend on Sydney's Eastern Creek raceway in a little over 100 days time for the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC).
Time attack is all about setting the fastest time over the event. The cars are broken down in to several classes, based on the level of modifications. The main restriction with these cars is that they must compete on road legal tyres, i.e. semi slicks. The teams are highly competitive, battling it out on track, but they are really fighting the stop watch.
The WTAC is set to be bigger this year with faster cars emerging. Last year's winner Eiji "Tarzan" Yamada from Japan recorded the fastest time of 1:28.8510 in the CyberEvo Mitsubishi Evo 9. To put this in perspective, the lap record for a V8 Supercar was set by Mark Skaife in a VT Commodore back in 1999 with a lap time of 1:31.7301.
Last year's WTAC drew entries from all over Australia, as well as New Zealand and Japan. This year, Japan's top Time Attack competitor, Nobuteru Tanaguchi, is already locked in for the Eastern Creek showdown, with more top names to be announced as the August 10-11 event draws nearer.
