Released in 1969, the Valiant Pacer was created in the VF series to appeal to a younger "hot rod" market. Surprisingly, it carried a hotted-up slant-six over the very commonly seen V8 platforms at the time. The unofficial power figure in 1969 came in at 175hp, which helped the Aussie-built Pacer become the quickest car at its price point.
In 1970, the VG Pacer was introduced with a new 245ci 200hp Hemi-six. While sales stayed strong, the VG didn't sell as many sedans as the VF. The all-new VH range was introduced in 1971, featuring a new aggressive style body and a 265ci Hemi-six punching out 218hp and a 0-100kph time of just 8.3 seconds. The VH took the crown in '71 as Car Of The Year and held the title as the fastest six-cylinder 4-door Aussie production sedan for many years. Unfortunately, with the introduction of the lighter Charger, sales for the Pacer sedan dwindled, seeing only 1768 VH Pacers produced, marking the end for the model.
This very original example of the rare VH Pacer sedan indicates 74,843 Mi and is in starting and running condition but will require a sympathetic restoration to get it back to driving order. The vendor has held the car in a private collection for some years after purchasing it locally in the Canberra region, with the car stored indoors during this period to avoid further and major rust that the Valiants can be known for. The vendor has stated the car was sold new by Commonwealth Motors in Canberra, however, this cannot be verified. The body shows its originality with some battle marks and some rust, but appears complete. The Tan interior also appears worn but complete with this Pacer optioned with an A95 interior dress-up package. This is a very rare and desirable performance sedan in Australia's history, and would make a great base for a sympathetic or even full restoration.
