Seller's Description
VERY UNIQUE LAND ROVER SERIES II CERTIFIED BY THE BRITISH MOTOR INDUSTRY HERITAGE TRUST. "GEORGE" 1958 LAND ROVER SERIES II SHORT WHEEL BASE George was originally imported to Australia by order of the Sydney Royal Agriculture Society as a purpose built Fire Engine. George arrived for work on the 28th of January 1959 as a first response vehicle. George was the Number One fire tender at the Sydney Showgrounds from 1959 to 1984. George was originally equipped with a 220L water tank in the back with a pump hanging over the back attached to the rear cross member and driven from the gearbox. It had canvas covered tool lockers along each side of the back seat area, and two large suction hoses mounted around the front mudguards. A large hose reel was mounted on top of the water tank. George has a twin brother somewhere. There were 2 delivered to the RAS that day. It is unknown where George's brother is. As part of the fire engine conversion completed by Land Rover in the UK, George was fitted with heavy duty rear springs, a 2.25L engine instead of the 2.0L, a heavy duty radiator, 8 bladed fan with double pulley, and of course the unique Red paint. Of course George is now in retirement. A complete restoration has been completed. All of the original paperwork comes with it including the Certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, a copy of the original order from the RAS and its original service book. Every receipt from the top to toe restoration comes with it. There is a register of its ownership history. This is a very rare piece of Australian motoring history. Please no time wasters or low ball offers.
