TIGER BACKGROUND The Sunbeam Tiger first prototyped by Carol Shelby inspired the factory to replace the Alpine four cylinder with a Ford 260 V8 and running gear, similar to the original AC Cobra. Tigers competed at the 1964 LeMans, won the 1965 Alpine Rally but later disqualified for having smaller valves than specified! When Rootes Group was taken over by Chrysler in the late 60’s a Ford engine wouldn’t wash and the line came to an abrupt end.
