The BWT Alpine Formula One Team has locked in its driver line-up for 2027, with Franco Colapinto committing to another season, alongside Pierre Gasly. The 23-year-old from Buenos Aires joined Alpine as a reserve driver at the start of the 2025 F1 season, then was promoted to a full-time seat after six rounds at the expense of Australia’s Jack Doohan.
Colapinto’s 2025 season in the Alpine A525 was unremarkable, with a best race finish of eleventh at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Argentine driver has improved this year, though, with his first Top 10 finish in the A526 at the Chinese GP in March, followed a seventh in Miami and sixth in Canada, which remains the best result of his F1 career at time of writing – including the brief period with Williams in 2024. Since receiving the upgraded A526 in August, Colapinto has finished ninth and seventh.
Flavio Briatore, Executive Advisor for the BWT Alpine Formula One Team, says that retaining both Gasly and Colapinto for 2027 underlines its ambitions for the future, with consistency in its driver line-up seen as a key as the team attempts to improve.
“We are very happy to confirm our driver line-up for 2027, with Franco staying as a race driver alongside Pierre,” said Briatore. “We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula One and he belongs at this team.”
Speaking of his contract extension, Colapinto said: “I’m very pleased to remain with this team in 2027. I feel very happy and very settled here, and it’s been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last.
“We have a lot more milestones to reach and I know the team is working so hard in finding performance and making the car better. Our long-term goals are obvious – to compete and win – and I am grateful to the team, Flavio and Steve [Nielsen, Managing Director], for the trust placed in me to be one of its drivers going into the future.”
