Seller's Description
Just arrived - This 1965 Volkswagen Kombi Utility is a great car for the collector. Introduced in 1950, the Kombi was available in a range of body shapes, including the single-cab utility. These cars were pioneers in the modern cargo and passenger van markets, and have since become an incredibly iconic classic. The first generations were known as the T1 and is identifiable by its split windscreen, affectionately called a Splittie. The current owner purchased this Kombi ute in New Zealand in 2008 as a project car, where it underwent a restoration. The motor was upgraded to a younger 1600cc 4 cylinder, which was available in the Kombis from 1971-1973. This is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. The body was stripped back and rust repaired, the interior reupholstered, and the car was resprayed in its beautiful two-tone red and white. It was shown in the Waipu Car and Bike Show in 2021 and won as the Best European Car. The current owner then imported the car to Australia in January 2025, where it was cleared under inspection for asbestos and then registered on the road here in SA. This Kombi appears in very neat condition both inside and out, and certainly runs a treat. Its the perfect classic car for someone who wants something finished and ready to cruise away in.
