1967 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1300 DELUXE
SN: 4539 VIN:197759872 ENG:1F1099546
$37,500
(To be sold Unregistered & with Vic RWC)
A FIRST PRIZE BUG AND 1776cc
The Volkswagen Beetle has been an iconic motor car since its inception, conceived and produced with the aim of being “The People's Car”, it perfectly achieved those aims by virtue of its engineering simplicity combined with its relatively low cost, reliability and spacious interior.
This Beetle was one of the last Australian manufactured examples (built in Clayton Victoria) before VW Australia was forced to move to CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly in 1968 as a cost saving measure. These Australian manufactured Beetles, built using 95% Australian components retained the prettier, early small window body which was introduced in 1958 rather than the later European large window bodies from 1965 onward, due to the large cost of retooling.
The Beetle was fully restored in 2014 by The Volkswagen Club of Victoria, then offered as First Prize in a raffle in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Australia. The Beetle presents beautifully finished in Birch Green with the interior trim in pale green vinyl, the seats trimmed with white piping and rides on 15” BRM alloy wheels. There has been an additional aftermarket instrument panel fitted below the dash on the right side and a tachometer fitted on the left side angled toward the driver as well as a period style Bluetooth radio.
In 2024, the Beetle was fitted with a later, rebuilt 1776cc engine, by ‘Vee-Dub Supplies’ in Campsie NSW and therefore performs noticeably better than from the factory 1300cc (40hp) unit. Mechanical work completed included a machined crankcase, ground crankshaft, new bearings, an ‘Engle 1/0’ camshaft, ‘C.B. Performance’ aluminium cam gear, ‘Mahle’ pistons & rings, new cylinder heads and valves, installation of weber carburettors and a front disc brake conversion with dual circuit brake master cylinder. Invoices in excess of $21k support the mechanical upgrades.
This Beetle complete with history file, presents in immaculate condition and backed by the legendary Volkswagen reliability and parts availability, is likely to be enjoyed for decades to come.
