Seller's Description
This 1969 Holden HK Monaro is an Australian icon and presents in flawless condition, having won numerous concours events. Under the bonnet is a 186 cubic inch (3.0-litre) in-line six-cylinder engine outputting 94kW to the rear wheels through a four-speed Opel-sourced transmission.
The 1969 HK Monaro was the first of its kind, ushering in a new era of Australian muscle car that is still honoured to this day. Its two-door coupe body style and famous Monaro name quickly became synonymous with Australian muscle car culture. The six-cylinder Monaros were often sold to middle-aged executives and families wishing to step up from period Kingswoods and Premiers. The lesser-known six-cylinder Monaros, like this authentic 186, are sought after for their relative good condition – when compared against V8-powered variants. The HK Monaro notably took out the 1968 Wheels Car of the Year award upon its debut.
This restored HK Monaro is painted in factory-correct Pinaroo Beige over a matching interior. It presents immaculate throughout and is detailed to factory specifications in every way. It equips factory accessories such as Nasco wheel spats, Nasco mud flaps, Venetian blinds, Nasco boot badging, Nasco overiders and a set of original Nasco 14-inch hub caps. This HK Monaro is powered by the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that was an extra-cost option at the time.
Originally built in July 1968 and complied shortly thereafter, this HK Monaro was delivered new through Holden dealer A.C. McGrath & Co in Liverpool, NSW. It remained under the first owner’s care for 40 years before being sold on in 2009 to its second owner. Upon purchase, its second owner commissioned a full nut-and-bolt restoration with paintwork being completed by Centreline Smash Repairs in Revesby, NSW. It is a three-time concours winner, taking out the Best in Concours award at the Monaro Nationals held in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Its provenance is exceptional, with extensive documentation including original delivery papers, owner’s manual, warranty booklet and pouch. The 5th owner has it parked along side his eclectic rare car collection for the last five years
Exterior condition is best described as pristine, with factory correct Pinaroo Beige paint looking sharp as ever. All exterior chrome trim is polished, all badges are in restored condition and all original Nasco accessories are present and accounted for. The car sits on a set of Nasco hub caps wrapped in new white wall Sumitomo tyres.
Inside presents just as remarkably as the outside, with unblemished Beige vinyl seats holding strong shape after 50 years of careful ownership. The padded dash – as well as Holden’s own Energy Absorbing steering column – is uncracked which is testament to both Holden’s original quality and the quiet life this car has led. The wide instrument cluster with warning lights functions as intended, as does all switchgear. The car features a tan-coloured carpet underflooring which is largely unmarked.
It is a full matching-numbers example complete with two original keys and full size spare wheel. After its original owner travelled 34,000 miles in this HK Monaro, it has only clocked 6,484 miles since its restoration.
This genuine Holden HK Monaro example is so rare and collectable, sought after by Holden fanatics, enthusiasts and purists. Demand for original style examples like this has pushed prices up and will continue to increase in value over time. We think that this specific specimen is worth more and will sell quickly. Will suit most astute buyer/investor who knows and appreciates how rare this car is (this is better than money in the bank). First to see will buy immediately. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to own one of the legendary/Iconic Holden HK Monaro Coupe that has become part of Australian Holden rich motoring heritage. Please inquire ASAP to avoid disappointment. Will sell quickly for $199,980
