The Porsche 914’s development began as a collaboration between Volkswagon and Porsche to produce a mid-engined targa top roadster which, when fitted with a VW 4 cylinder engine would replace the VW Karmann Ghia and when fitted with the 911’s 6 cylinder engine, replace the entry-level Porsche 912.
Before it’s launch, due to a change in VW management, it was decided that the 914 would be solely marketed under the Porsche marque, in both 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder variants.
With over 118,000 body units manufactured by coachbuilder Karmann, in Osnabruck Germany, featuring a fibreglass-reinforced plastic removable roof and pop-up headlights, the 914 was only produced in left hand drive.
Imported from the USA to Australia in 2014, this 914 was subject to major mechanical works including a re-build of it’s air-cooled 1.8 litre flat four engine and the fitment of Koni shock absorbers front & rear by Volks Home Automotive at a cost of $14k, just 30km ago!
Passing it’s Australian compliance in August 2024, and gaining a Victorian Club Permit in September 2024, this 950kg Targa sits on a set of Fuchs style wheels, contrasting the bright, yellow bodywork.
The standard, black vinyl interior features both an Alpine headunit with matched set of Focal speakers as well as a kmph speedometer, providing an easier and more enjoyable drive.
