THE STORY Produced by Holden between 2013 and 2017, the Holden VF Commodore was the last significantly restyled iteration of the fourth and final generation of the Holden Commodore to be manufactured in Australia. The range included a sedan, station wagon and commercial utility version. Alongside the base Evoke model, Holden offered the Commodore SV6, SS, SS V and SS V Redline model variants with differing specifications. The SV6 models had a 3.6L SIDI V6 engine and presented with a sportier body-kit than the base model Evoke, featuring LED running lights, a lip spoiler, FE2 suspension and alloy wheels, alongside a host of interior upgrades. The entry level SS had the same cosmetic features as the SV6 but featured a higher performance 6.2L LS3 V8 engine, which was previously only available on HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) models. In the mid-range, the SS V included larger 19-inch wheels and front fog lights, as well as leather seats, an enhanced instrument display, a satellite navigation system and a DVD player. The top-end SS V Redline provided extra performance enhancement features over those of the SS V, with improved brake and suspension packages, extra collision sensors, launch control (in manual transmission options) and a sunroof. Across all models, a manual transmission was no longer available on any SS models with the sportswagon body shape. THE CAR A one owner vehicle, this example of a 2017 VF Commodore SS V Redline Sportswagon is in immaculate condition throughout with only 3,651 kms on the clock! On the outside, the sleek ‘Son of a Gun’ dark grey paint looks excellent adorned with polished chrome ‘SS’ badges, distinctive ‘blackout’ alloy rims and fiery red Brembo brake calipers that stand out beautifully against the car’s dark finish. The black leather interior is ‘like new’ and features two-zone climate control, a sunglass holder, footwell lamps, sports pedals, electric seats, a sunroof and an instrument panel equipped with a heads-up display, on-board computer, collision detection, GPS and voice-recognition technology. Other features include factory tinted windows, ‘flappy paddles’ behind the steering wheel and an 8” touch screen. The stonking 6.2L (378ci) LS3 V8 engine outputs tremendous power and is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission boasting smooth gear changes. The Brembo disc brakes provide very responsive stopping power, and the upgraded FE-3 suspension package ensures a comfortable ride. Overall a fantastic example of the last generation of Commodores to be produced in Australia – an icon and a true Aussie legend. Currently registered in SA.
