Australia Post release Ford stamp set
To mark the 100th Anniversary of Ford Australia, Australia Post has released a limited-edition stamp set that highlights significant Australian-made Fords from the past century. Released on the eve of Father’s Day, the set of four stamps have a face value of $1.70 each.

Designed by Sharon Rodziewicz of the Australia Post Design Studio, the stamps feature a ‘Geelong’ Model T, XP Falcon 2-door, XA Falcon GT hardtop and FG-X Falcon XR8 sedan. The choice of cars will no doubt stir debate amongst fans (why no ’33 Coupe Utility, why no XY Falcon GT-HO, etc.), but according to Australia Post, these four were selected for their significance to Ford’s local centenary.

The Model T and FG-X being the bookends of Australian manufacturing make sense, while the XP was chosen for the impact Ford’s 1965 ‘Reliability Run’ had on local perceptions of the Falcon (and also highlighted the You Yangs Proving Ground), while the XA GT was the first Falcon to be fully designed and built in Australia.
It's also worth noting that many of the more obvious choices for Fords from the past have already been featured by Australia Post.

Each stamp combines a photorealistic colour rendering by Hughes Motorsport Art with a black and white background image relevant to the car. For example, the background image for the Model T shows handcrafting at the Geelong plant, with the Falcon XR8’s background showing the last Falcon off the line at Broadmeadows in 2016.

“Ford has been part of everyday life in Australia for a century, so this stamp is a great way to celebrate that legacy,” said Josh Bannister, Australia Post Executive General Manager Retail, Brand and Marketing. “It honours the cars, the people who built them, and the stories they’ve created across the country.
“Australia Post is proud to commemorate 100 years of Ford in Australia with a stamp that reflects its lasting impact.”
