Entries open for 2023 Targa GBR and Targa Tasmania
Following the release of the Review Panel Report in late February, Targa events return for 2023 with the Targa Great Barrier Reef on 1-3 September, followed by the flagship Targa Tasmania, now on 23-28 October, instead of the usual April date.
Targa Australia P/L opened entries for both events in late March, announcing major changes to the entry fee structure at the same time.
What’s being described as a “complete overhaul” of the entry fees has been introduced to offer more pricing options for entrants.
For the first time, entry fees will be based on competitors, rather than the cars they drive, with discounts applied based on time of entry and/or years of competition. Years of Attendance discounts start at five years, which is applicable to people entering their fifth event of the same name. This increases in increments of five years, up to 30 years for Targa Tasmania.
For the 3-day Targa GBR, the regular entry fee of $4,900 for Competition and $3,400 for Tour can be reduced with Early Bird payment, as well as well as a ‘Fully Paid’ discount; an option that returns for the first time in many years.
For Targa Tasmania’s six days, Competition entry is $12,900 and Tour entry $6,400, with Early Bird and Fully Paid discounts available, while long-term Targa entrants can have their entry fee slashed by thousands under the new Years of Attendance discounts.
One-day Tour entry is available for both events, along with a three-day tour and Rookie Rallye options for Targa Tasmania. Fully Paid discounts are available for these options, too.
“Everyone wants to see a bright future for Targa, but we can’t sugarcoat the challenges we face, and the reality is that only our customers can ensure our survival,” said Targa CEO Mark Perry. “It has always been an obvious fact that Targa requires very large fields of cars to operate at the scale it does, so we need them, old and new, to join us on the journey ahead, if we all wish to continue living out our Targa dreams.”
