Hamann Volcano based on Mercedes McLaren SLR
In the world of super cars it is not always necessary to create your own car from the chassis up. Some companies, such as the German based Hamann Motorsport take existing super cars and simply make them even better.
The company was founded in 1986 by Richard Hamann with the intention of super tuning just German makes, and in particular BMWs.
Of course his interest soon saw him expand the business to now provide his unique treatment to include Lamborghinis, Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, Range Rover and Rolls Royce. He has even re-worked a Mini and Fiat 500! Hamann has also expanded its operation to create special one of a kind vehicles.
Hamann takes individualism to the highest levels and delivers unique cars that to say they stand out in a crowd is a massive under statement.
Hamann chose the Frankfurt Motor Show to debut the awesome Volcano (above), a stunning red and black machine based on a standard Mercedes McLaren SLR - already a pretty impressive machine in its own right.
Hamann has lifted performance, with a 515kW (700hp) supercharged 5.4-litre V8 engine (up 74hp on stock model), while torque has been boosted to 830Nm, peaking at just 3300rpm.
Hamann has improved the SLRs aerodynamics, boosted power, re-worked the interior and added a new suspension and handling package. The aggressive new sports body kit is made of carbon fibre and consists of front and rear wing extensions, as well as new skirt attachments.
The Volcano has a newly designed bonnet with an integrated air scoop, while at the rear Hamann added a new diffuser as well as a large wing spoiler. Other features include 21-inch alloy wheels and rubber.
Hamann have created a striking machine, that frankly makes the standard SLR look quite ordinary.
The Volcano races from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 348km/h, some 14 kms faster than the SLR 722 special edition. Inside there is Alcantara trim, aluminium pedals, custom side sills and carbon fibre highlights.
The red and black Volcano was so successful that Hamann has since built a yellow edition.
