PREVIEW – BOLWELL History Book
Bolwell – The Cars
No Australian company has gone where Bolwell has. Between 1962 and 1979, the company produced more than 800 of Australia’s most famous sportscars, recognised around the country and across the globe as vehicles ahead of their time.
With exceptional styling, engineering, performance and ‘street cred’, Bolwell sportscars from the 1960s and ’70s now change hands for up to 30 times their original value.
In the same period, Bolwell racing sportscars dominated every category they contested – against all international comers. Today, they continue to excel in historic racing categories, as well as modern tarmac rally events.
After an hiatus of almost thirty years, a new Bolwell car – the Mk X Nagari – was presented at the 2008 Melbourne and Sydney International Motor Shows, and released the following year. The Mk Xs are considered by enthusiasts to be the equal of some of the world’s most famous sportscar brands, thanks to their exceptional engineering, performance and value for money.
Bolwell – The Company
Away from car production, Bolwell has been one of Australia’s leading composites manufacturers – and a major global player - for the past five decades, producing a massive range of products. Indeed, the Bolwell brand has permeated just about every aspect of everyday life and it is said that every person alive has come into contact with a Bolwell-made product.
Think Bolwell in the modern era and you need to think …‘Golden Arches’ (McDonald’s signage), children’s playground equipment (in thousands of parks), truck bodies (tens of thousands of them), electricity substations, motor scooters, yachts, simulators and ride-on games, as well as aerodynamic aids on regular production cars. Bolwell has also been involved with hovercraft and wind turbines, as well as equipment for the defence, transport and caravan industries.
Bolwell – The Future
While the Mk X Nagari remains in production, Bolwell has a brand new ‘supercar’ due in early 2018. Other new vehicles are on the drawing board, too.
Following the recent demise of the manufacturing operations of Holden, Ford and Toyota, Bolwell now stands alone as Australia’s sole automobile manufacturer.
