Welcome to Just Cars issue No. 134
March is one of my favourite motoring months, which can only mean Melbourne! As you read this issue the brilliant Melbourne Motor Show has just opened - leaving you plenty of time to get down to Jeff's Shed to have a look at some of the best metal in the land. The Motor Show also means that Shannons's annual motor show auction is also upon us, and as usual you can view some of these magnificent marques in the concourse at the show. Melbourne is the automotive capital of Australia and the motor show is the premier event among many during Automotive Week.

1963 Bentley S3 Continental
A Bentley Continental. This is what James Bond wanted before he received the Aston Martin. That's because in James's prime, the Continental was the car to have for touring, well, the Continent.Just a couple of things to sort out about a Bentley Continental. The first ones (1952) were made to a specification that called for (a) 2 doors and (b) more performance than the dour 4 door Bentley saloon. Not that any of this was new to Bentley. They had a "sports" model, called the Corniche, set for launch around 1940 but we know who put a stop to that.
1975 Ford Landau
In many ways, the Landau is a car that defies categorisation. It's luxury. . . but sporty, too. At the time of its release in 1973, the Landau was a totally new concept - at least for the Australian market. For the past decade, the Thunderbird had been selling like hot cakes in the USA - as a "personal luxury" coupe. No doubt, Ford's then Managing Director, the American Bill Bourke, thought the same concept could work here.\n

Welcome to issue No. 130
The English Cricket Team might be attempting to defend The Ashes, but one famous Knight has already scored a ton. Sir Alec Issigonis, designer of the post war Morris Minor and world famous Mini, was born 100 years ago on 18 November 1906. He studied engineering in London and later became a draughtsman and worked for Morris before World War II.
